How the planner calculates
The planner compares camera placements on a floor plan. It uses typical lens and bit-rate values, and you can replace each one with the value from your model's data sheet.
Field of view
Each camera casts a ray every 0.5° across the lens's angle. Each ray stops at the first opaque wall, at the detection limit or at 60 m. Glass and railings do not block, but a second pane of glass on the same line does. The view is on the plan only: the blind spot below the camera and its tilt are not counted yet.
Detail (DORI)
Pixels per meter = horizontal pixels ÷ (2 × slant distance × tan(angle ÷ 2)), with the face 1.6 m high. Identify needs 250 px/m, recognize 125, observe 62 and detect 25.
Entry points and outdoor area
An entry point is covered when some camera on the same floor sees it, with no opaque wall in between, at least at the level it needs. The outdoor area watched is the part of the lot outside the house that some camera sees at the observe level or better, on a 0.5 m grid.
Suggested spot
The search tries spots along every wall, every 0.5 m, outside the house for outdoor cameras and inside it for indoor ones. For each spot it picks the direction that fits the most uncovered entry points in the lens's angle, and keeps the best spot.
Recording
GB per day = Mbps × 10.8 × hours ÷ 24 × share recorded; days = TB × 931 ÷ total. Default H.265 bit rates: 1080p 1.5 Mbps, 4 MP 2.5, 5 MP 3, 4K 4. H.264 multiplies by {h264}.
Wi-Fi signal and cable
The signal at a Wi-Fi camera uses the Planejador WiFi model at 2.4 GHz, with each wall's loss. Below −72 dBm the planner warns you. Cable is estimated from the right-angle distance to the recorder × 1.2, plus 3 m of spare per camera.
Limits
Lens angles and bit rates vary a lot between models, and night image quality depends on the infrared and the lighting. Use the planner to compare options and check with the installed camera.
